The project ‘Future Geology’ focusses on the simulation of human effects on the Earth’s crust. In the era of the Anthropocene, human activities have a global impact on the Earth. Mankind is depleting natural resources and polluting our soil. In rocks we read the story of our restless planet. We come to understand its complex patterns of interaction and the nature of change over deep geological time.These future stones are made of artificial materials such as metal, chemical resin, plastic, textile, plaster, glass fiber and washed up materials. As environmental issues become a priority through the world’s industrial transformations, we all contribute to the changing landscape and deformation of the planet. Our landfills and oceans incorporate artificial materials and Gwen is motivated to show these changes in a contemporary, poetic and speculative manner.
