Focusing on the themes of perception and individual expression. Van den Bout’s experiential, conceptual practice incorporates many different methods and media, harnessing the potential of material and the dynamism and energy resonating in animate work.
In ‘Untitled’ Gwen explores context as content by using glass as a canvas.
The glass has been painted and fused it in the kiln under high temperatures allowing the transformation and transposing of colors and patterns to occur. This technique has been developing since 2013 during her exchange semester to University of Sydney.
Visualisation is not just the physical presence or the superficial content that you see, it is actually much more sensual than that. It argues that we feel and understand it through increasingly narrow funnels of perception. The process shows an organic way of expressing and mixing the feelings of shapes and colours that present a landscape that is formed within the movement of time. In order to experience art there is always a blueprint. Living in an impoverished perceptual mindscape creates the urge to art of attention and the power that paintings can draw you in.
Artworks from this serie is also exhibited in Casa Tinta, Bogota (CO) and Publieke Werken Rotterdam (NL)
